SGX Nifty indicates flat start for Sensex, Nifty; Reliance Industries ahead of Q3 results


Equity tips:-






SGX Nifty is at 10,950, up 25 points. For today, expect more colour on the upside with earnings from 'big boy' Reliance due after market, which could see speculative buying in anticipation of good results.

Nifty saw a quiet day after Tuesday's sharp rally with index closing flat for the day. Profit booking above 10930 saw mid-caps also give up most gains as Nifty consolidated. Metals, auto & FMCG saw selling, while PSU banks continued to see buying even after a superb December.

Global Markets: Asian indices opened in the green led by the Japanese Nikkei as globally equities seem the choice destination in early January. Earnings meet estimates in large banks in the US and technology stocks set to report better numbers in coming week. Asian indices set to outperform after being decimated in 2018 with Chinese Government spending package aiding sentiment.

US Markets: US indices close in the green led by banks, as earnings and guidance surprise on the upside. Bond yields rise along with US$ as risk on trade makes a comeback as equities outperform in January. Dow Jones closed well over 24,000 in best start to New Year in over 10 years.

FII/DII Data: In yesterday’s trading session FIIs sold 90cr stock in the cash market whereas DIIs bought 304cr worth of stock. In the derivative market, FIIs sold 818cr of Index futures and bought 365cr worth of Index options. In the Stock futures segment, FIIs bought 171cr worth of stock futures and sold 44cr stock options.

FII View: FIIs created bearish positions in the Index Futures in yesterday’s trading session which is deduced by the fact that they created 12,106 net short contracts in the segment, however considering the volatility in the market they also considering hedging their positions to an extent by purchasing 3,734 long contracts in Index Call options.

Axis Bank slumps over 6% post quarterly earning

Equity tips:- Shares of Axis Bank have slumped by over 6% in opening trades after announcing quarterly earning post market hours on Tuesday.  The stock opened at Rs 488 hit an intraday high of Rs 489 and an intraday low of Rs 482. Total traded volumes were approx 0.35mn shares. The quarterly results missed street estimates as NII for the quarter was 4.5% below street estimates of Rs.4741 crore. Also, net profit for the quarter was almost 66% down from street estimates of Rs.1298 crore. NII for the quarter remained flat at Rs.4539 crore vs Rs.4513 crore in previous year corresponding quarter. This was largely due to muted interest income growth to Rs.11235 crore vs Rs.11159 crore in Q2FY18. Asset quality of the bank deteriorated further as GNPA’s for the quarter rose by almost 67% yoy to Rs 27402 crore. Asian stocks trade mixed; Nikkei 225 up ~1%

Equity tips:- The S&P 500 Index climbed to a four-month high as it held above the key 2,800 level. Asian stock markets were trading mixed on Thursday as investors awaited a slew of economic data from China. The pound gave back some of Wednesday’s surge as traders positioned for the next steps in the Brexit saga.
