Nifty above 10,850 mark; Metal index gains 2%

  1. Equity benchmark indices opened higher on Monday HDFC twins, ICICI Bank, ITC, Power Grid, and NTPC.

    Vedanta rose 3.5% on the NSE after the NGT order allowing the reopening of its Tuticorin plant.

    The Sensex rose 256 points to 36,219, while the Nifty jumped 63 points to 10,868. The market breadth is positive as 952 shares advanced, 569 shares declined, and 537 shares remained unchanged.

    All sectoral indices are trading higher, with most gains seen in metals, financial services, FMCG, IT, and automobiles stocks, while realty, IT and banking stocks under pressure .

    Shares of L&T are marginally up on the BSE. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has terminated its contract with L&T-Scomi Engineering joint venture (JV) for the development of the monorail project on the back of failure to meet contractual obligations, as per media reports.

    Shares of Power Grid gained 3% on the NSE on heavy volumes.

    Major gainers on the NSE were Vedanta, Reliance Industries, Yes Bank, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Adani Ports and PowerGrid, and SBI.

    Shares of Jet Airways dropped 3% after media report said that its largest lender - State Bank of India called for forensic audit of its books.

    Volatility index India VIX is down 0.11% to 15.14.

    The most active stocks were Vedanta, Yes Bank, Indiabulls HF, ICICI Bank, and NTPC.

    Share price of Security and Intelligence Services rose 2% after company acquired 51% stake in Uniq Detective and Security Services.

    Meanwhile, the rupee on Monday opened 11 paise lower at 71.79 against the US dollar.

Equity tips:- Shares of Axis Bank have slumped by over 6% in opening trades after announcing quarterly earning post market hours on Tuesday.  The stock opened at Rs 488 hit an intraday high of Rs 489 and an intraday low of Rs 482. Total traded volumes were approx 0.35mn shares. The quarterly results missed street estimates as NII for the quarter was 4.5% below street estimates of Rs.4741 crore. Also, net profit for the quarter was almost 66% down from street estimates of Rs.1298 crore. Asian stocks trade mixed; Nikkei 225 up ~1%

Equity tips:- The S&P 500 Index climbed to a four-month high as it held above the key 2,800 level. Asian stock markets were trading mixed on Thursday as investors awaited a slew of economic data from China.
